Interactive Prototyping

What is Interactive Prototyping?

An interactive prototype is interaction design presented as something more than a collection of wireframes. The prototype can be manipulated, navigated the elements are interactive. Sometimes even business logic is simulated.

Prototypes support communication and evaluation

There are two main reasons for building prototypes: communication and evaluation. A prototype that one can manipulate is a strong medium of communication between project stakeholders. Evaluation, such as usability testing, is easily facilitated using an interactive prototype.
With today’s prototyping tools the additional effort required to make an interactive prototype instead of static wireframes is relatively small.

Deliverables

The deliverable is the prototype, whose format depends on the tool used. The most typical formats are html (run in a web browser), flash files and Visio .vsd files.
