Assignment: Review an online job finding feature
To offer visitors a better experience, a large recruitment agency in the Netherlands was working on redesigning their website. One of the most important elements was the option for users to find suitable jobs and to directly apply online. Besides searching for jobs in the traditional way (using keywords), the new website would also allow users to browse through all the available jobs. The client wanted to be sure this new browse feature would deliver a good user experience. User Intelligence was therefore asked to evaluate this feature.
Methods used: Expert Review combined with Web Analytics
Since the new browse feature would be integrated into the website, we couldn’t only focus on this element alone. To ensure a good experience, we had to take the whole process of finding a job online (including the registration process and application) into account. Budget and time constraints made it impossible to conduct a usability test. Therefore we proposed to conduct an Expert Review in combination with Web Analytics on the current website.
Combining these two methods made it possible to conduct a more thorough and complete evaluation. Traditional Expert Reviews are always limited by the domain knowledge and experience of the individual reviewers. Using the web data (Web Analytics) we were able to add information about the behavior of thousands of actual visitors to this review.
Results: Recommendations for the redesign
The evaluation provided valuable insights and clear recommendations on how to improve the new browse feature into the website. The review also found opportunities to improve other elements of the website. These findings were used to improve the redesigns of the new website, leading to an improved experience for the visitors and better results for the recruitment agency.
