Greener?
On 12 November 2009 it is World Usability Day. On this annual day internet professionals around the globe promote usability around a central theme. This year's theme is: Designing for a sustainable world.
At User Intelligence we like to contribute by looking for ways via Internet to make our office more environment friendly. We have put two teams of dedicated people on this assignment. They will be looking for websites that offer 'green' services and products that are suitable for making our office greener. In the meantime they obviously are looking at the usability and user experience of these websites.

So we found ...
... some really useful websites that offer sustainable products or services!
- We now recylcle our Nespresso capsules! On the Swiss Nespresso site you can find out how it works. We found out that the Amsterdam stores are also involved in the recycling
- www.groenekantoorartikelen.nl – on this website it was easy to find green products. We have started ordering our printing paper with a green label...
- Bring green to work – with this excellent application we found how easy it is to take small steps in saving energy!
- We found out that making our lunches more sustainable is healthy, fun and easy! With help of the Puur uit eten website (Dutch), we found a farmers market just around the corner!
And of course ...
... we found some common issues across many 'green' sites:
- Sites often lack structured information
- ‘Green product’ offering is unclear
- True contribution to the environment is unclear to users
