Web Traffic Map

When redesigning a website, it can be useful to use the existing Web Analytics data to steer the design process. To make this possible, data needs to be clean and correct, but also needs to be presented in a way that it is easily understood by its target audience. At the Euro IA summit in Amsterdam, User Intelligence already showed the audience a Web Traffic Map that was developed for this purpose.

Further development

Based on positive feedback from our peers and clients, we decided to put some extra effort in further development of this deliverable. In our new poster and handout we share our findings by describing how we managed to use Web Analytics as an effective tool within the redesign process of our clients website.

Resulting steps...

In short, our approach can be divided in six steps:

  • Initial Expert review indicated issues with original website
  • Traffic data analyzed and presented in a Web Traffic Map
  • Decision to improve both design and Web Analytics configuration
  • Results of the improved configuration presented in Web Traffic map II
  • Key findings guided redesign of website
  • Monitoring site performance
