From 18 to 22 March 2009, The Peabody Hotel in Memphis (TN) played host to the 10th annual Information Architecture Summit. As always many User Experience professionals from around the US and further afield attended to learn, get inspired, present work & ideas or just “network”.
This is the fourth consecutive year that User Intelligence has attended this Summit and we have contributed something each year. This year we contributed by co-organizing the Wall of Deliverables and presenting a poster.
Poster presentation – Effectively communicating Web Analytics
At the poster session User Intelligence presented a poster describing a new approach to communicating the importance and benefits of using Web Analytics throughout a redesign project.

The presentation was inspired by our production and use of a new deliverable, the Web Traffic Map. It is a one page, A3 graphic deliverable designed to communicate the results of WA analysis of their site but also, and maybe more importantly, it is designed to quickly and effectively communicate the main points for improvements both for their website and their web analytics implementation.
The poster was well received and generated a lot of interest from professionals in various areas of our industry. One reason for the enthusiastic reception may have been the practical, ‘take home’ nature of the presentation.
Both versions of the Web traffic Map have received many votes at Both the IA Jam last year (Euro IA 2009, Amsterdam) and the Wall of Deliverables at this year’s IA Summit, lending weight to its effectiveness as a deliverable and communications tool.

Wall of Deliverables – Second year running
After the success of the first ‘Wall of Deliverables’ competition at the 9th IA Summit in Miami last year the same team (Jacco Nieuwland - User Intelligence, Livia Labate - Comcast & Nathan Curtis - EightShapes) returned this year for the second round. This time we had a larger wall, an online version of it and better prizes to win for participants.

The Wall of Deliverables offers an activity where conference attendees can view and share deliverables with their peers (pictures here!). People can post their favorite deliverable, along with details that defined its context. The wall serves as a source of inspiration for attendees and is a great starting point for useful discussions around deliverables in our industry.
This year the WoD event at the Summit was complimented by the Wall of Deliverables Online, allowing people to submit and share their deliverables online. Only those attending the event could enter to competition element but as the main focus of the WoD is to inspire through sharing the WoD online will remain live so the UX professionals can continue to contribute and be inspired by what others are doing.
Although there was considerably less input than last year we received a good number of interesting & thought provoking deliverables both online and at the summit itself. Prizes were awarded for the top four deliverables in the popular vote and one for the deliverable selected by a panel of judges.
