Computer systems are boring, Wouter thinks. Still he plays with his console, talks to his mobile, cherishes his digital camera and curses his slow desktop. He relates to these computers. What is that relation between humans and systems? Now that is interesting!
A design researcher he is. A master degree in human-human interaction (Clinical Linguistics, Groningen) and a postmaster degree in human-system interaction (USI, Eindhoven) compose the formal qualifications. The combination has provided experience in a large variety of research techniques for the design and evaluation of user interfaces of products, services, and systems. During that time he collaborated with several partners in industry, e.g. Philips Applied Technologies, Alcatel (Antwerp), Zwijsen, for projects and when coaching bachelor and master students.
In 2009 he joined User Intelligence as User Experience Consultant. The responsibilities focus on making user research effective at every stage in design and translating user observations to strategic design directions. Besides working at UI, he pursuits a PhD at the University of Technology in Eindhoven. The research focuses on designing usefully with young children. The human-computer relationship is even more interesting with these youngsters!
When Wouter’s status is idle, you will probably find him outdoors, on his racing bike, or rowing, or sailing.
