Martje can be characterised as an enthusiastic and dedicated user researcher. Creating better use experiences for end users is what drives her in her work.
She studied Industrial Design Engineering and Design for Interaction at the Faculty of Industrial Design, Delft Technical University. All along she was most fascinated about the psychological aspects of product use. For questions as to why people (do not) understand a product or how people feel about a product you can wake Martje in the middle of the night. However, she is not only interested in finding and defining problems, but also in solving them. In the end it is all about contributing to better and easier use experiences.
After graduation Martje wanted to deepen her knowledge on research techniques and joined Blauw Research, a large research agency in Rotterdam. She gained experience in conducting a large variety of qualitative research methods, such as home visits, accompanied shoppings, focus groups, brainstorm sessions and single interviews. In addition, she loved working on co-creation projects through the use of the Design Game (a co-creation board game). However, Martje wanted to be more involved in the design world and contribute to better user experiences. Hence, she decided to broaden the horizon again and started at User Intelligence in 2010.
Martje is responsible for all research projects done in the Rotterdam office, but also keeps busy with projects outside the Rotterdam area.
Favorite techniques in conducting user research are context mapping, projective techniques, personas, diary techniques, all used to make the end user contribute to enhancing his own use experience!
Next to being enthusiastic about work, Martje is also enthusiastic about cycling, gardening, hiking and other outside hobbies. Also reading and good food are favorites; however, these are preferred indoors.
