Jacco Nieuwland
After he finished his study Informatics at the Hague University, Jacco worked as a front-end programmer for eight years for different employers. He discovered that he was better skilled in interacting with clients and designing applications, than writing the actual code. When more and more work became web related, Jacco decided to focus on the design of applications for websites.
At EzGov Jacco took up the function of ‘Information Architect’ (IA) and became very experienced in designing complex systems for large numbers of users. He worked on the design of applications for the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Inland Revenue (now HMRC) in the United Kingdom.
In the end of 2005 Jacco joined User Intelligence. In his new role as senior information architect he applies (and enriches) his knowledge on the broader and more commercial clients of User Intelligence. Jacco has been involved in a wide range of projects for SDU, BNR News radio, Funda Finance and Vodafone.
To make the communication of IA deliverables easier, Jacco created swipr. This is a kind of plug-in for Visio which enables users to combine screen flows and wireframes into a single clickable set of HTML documents. Swipr greatly simplifies the communication of these standard deliverables for information architects. Swipr was launched in October 2006 and is freely available under an open-source license.
